Along with the localized Azure Stack, Microsoft also said it is expanding to eight the number of government cloud regions for managing data ranging from unclassified to sensitive to secret. Government contracts typically span several years, are stable clients, and re-occurring which means landing a customer in this segment is a long-term path to increased revenue.

Continuing with the announcements, Microsoft also said it's planning to make two new Azure Government regions available in the USA, bringing the total number to eight. With the cloud computing market predicted to grow to $74.7bn in 2018, both companies are improving their offerings to attract a wider range of clients.

Josh Rice, general manager of Microsoft's worldwide modern workplace, wrote in a news release published Monday the Microsoft 356 package includes Windows 10, Enterprise Mobility + Security and Office 365 offerings created to help government agencies meet USA security and compliance requirements. It can also help meet regulatory requirements for government entities, including embassies or military bases in foreign countries where local cloud services may be restricted on account of data sovereignty laws.
