The Daily Mirror website has run a video that appears to show Sky Sports pundit Carragher wind his auto window down and spitting at supporters who were goading him following a 2-1 defeat for his former club Liverpool against United at Old Trafford.
Carragher was involved in an exchange of words with the fan after his former team Liverpool were defeated 2 - 1 by United at Old Trafford on Saturday, March 10.
Video footage shows Carragher leaning forward and spitting towards the man's auto after the driver said: "Two-one mate, unlucky Jamie lad".
The Sky Sports pundit then spits a mouthful of water at the neighbouring vehicle, flecks of which hit the 14-year-old girl sitting in the passenger seat.
Tonight, Carragher, 40, posted on Twitter: "Totally out of order and I've apologised personally to all the family this evening".
