President Donald Trump on Monday publicly criticized his own attorney general, Jeff Sessions, for allowing Republican congressmen to be indicted for alleged criminal behavior.

Despite Trump's claim that both investigations began under Democratic President Barack Obama, Collins was charged over trades in June 2017 - almost six months after Trump took office.

Trump has frequently pilloried Sessions for recusing himself from Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation of possible collusion with Russian Federation to tilt the 2016 USA election toward the real estate billionaire.

Republican congressional leadership considered the charges serious enough to move to strip both men of their committee assignments. "This is such a disgrace, this is so contrary to the traditions of the Department of Justice".

The Justice Department declined to comment on the President's tweets. Collins suspended his campaign days after he was indicted, while Hunter is continuing to campaign for re-election.

"This tweet alone may be an impeachable offense", Toobin stated. "Really sick!" Trump tweeted.

Appearing to express dismay on Monday at the investigations which brought about charges against two of his most loyal supporters in Congress, Reps.

Of course, Toobin's hypothetical is a totally different situation, mainly since Trump wasn't recommending that Sessions or anyone else in the Justice Department cease what they're now doing. But in what is expected to be a charged debate over Sessions's successor - a debate likely to try even some Republican senators wary of Trump's maneuvers - tweets like the ones Sunday aren't exactly going to tamp down the idea Trump is searching for a political crusader to lead the DOJ. The Hunter investigation began under Obama. Trump also defended his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and insisted he was unfairly treated, even after Manafort was found guilty on eight counts of financial crimes. The Dems all hated him, wanted him out, thought he was disgusting - UNTIL I FIRED HIM!

A few minutes after the tweet on Sessions, Trump added a second tweet attacking former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James B. Comey, asserting that Democrats did not like Comey until Trump fired him in 2017.

The attack on Mr Sessions comes after Mr Trump last week said that Mr Sessions was safe in his job at least until after the November mid-term elections.
