To celebrate its 10th birthday, Google's Chrome team has launched a new version of the browser with various tweaks - including a new look.

The new version is called Chrome 69 and it is now rolling out across desktop, iOS, and Android. There is a revamped new tab design with a horizontal page switcher. Google is also planning on adding the ability to search for files stored in Google Drive to the Omnibox.

The Omnibox will now show you answers directly in the address bar without having to open a new tab. Plus, Chrome will now tell you when you already have a site open, so you can jump to that tab without making a duplicate tab. With this release, Google Chrome's "omnibox", the bar you type URLs or search queries into, can show you search result answers as you type.

Overall, the Mac and iOS updates for Chrome are a welcome change. On iOS, the toolbar was moved to the bottom which can be achieved on Android with the Chrome Duet flag.

The biggest change, Chrome now features more rounded shapes, new icons and a new colour palette.

Perhaps the first thing you will notice in Chrome 69 is the brand new user interface.

The company has started putting that warning (in grey) before sites that transmit passwords or credit cards information over HTTP in early 2017, then started doing the same with FTP sites and, most recently, all HTTP sites.

Needless to say, this is a massive update. Google launched its browser on 2 September 2008 and over the last decade it has become the world's most popular browser over mobile and desktop markets. The good news is that, even if you already updated to the latest version of the browser, you can still go back to the classic design.

More minor visual changes mean you do not see the http:// part of any web address when you are browsing the internet.

Chrome has improved its password handler so that when you sign up for new sites it will recommend a strong and hard to brute force password.

On the desktop, all you need to click on the three-dot icons on the right-hand side of your Chrome window, select Settings, click the Menu Bar, and click About Chrome.

The new Chrome will allow more customisations like enabling shortcut creation and management from the new tab page. For those who open a lot of tabs, the look of the website icons have been made easier to see at-a-glance.

Yes, it's nearly hard to believe that Chrome is both just 10 years old and already 10 years old at the same time.

Users are also able to create and manage shortcuts to websites directly from the "new tab" page, with the "Add shortcut" feature, said Google. Google also mentions that it is experimenting with under-the-hood changes to improve Chrome's overall performance that are covered in detail on its developer blog. If you want to have password management for those, you will have to use a third-party service.
