The eye of the storm was located about 330 miles north-northeast of Hilo, Hawaii, and 375 miles east-northeast of Honolulu, the CPHC said in its 11 a.m. HST update.

Hurricane Olivia entered the Central Pacific Saturday afternoon and remained on course to pass over Hawaii, most likely as a tropical storm, by the middle of this week. Norman was moving north-northwest at 9 miles per hour. The agency reports that a weaker system will steer Olivia more westerly with less of a turn towards the islands; and a stronger system will bring the system in a more SW path towards the islands.

The National Weather Service says high storm rainfall from Olivia is possible with amounts of 10 to 15 inches, with isolated amounts over 20 inches. "Florence is forecast to rapidly strengthen to a major hurricane by Monday, and is expected to remain an extremely unsafe major hurricane through Thursday", the advisory says. "I can't find another example of a hurricane/typhoon nearing Guam, Hawaii & the eastern United States at nearly exactly the same time (days ~ 4,5,6 respectively)".

Over in the Pacific, Tropical Storm Paul was last observed with 45 mph sustained wind speeds about 660 miles west-southwest of the Baja Peninsula.
