Meghan Markle fans were left confused after the Duchess appeared to have a "softer voice" during her interview on new ITV documentary Queen of the World.
Visiting the Oceania exhibition at London's Royal Academy of Arts, the Duchess made waves within seconds of arriving with the gesture.
Arriving at the Royal Academy of Arts, Meghan, 37, stepped out of the vehicle - after having the door opened for her by, presumably, a royal minder - and greeted her host.
One disbelieving user wrote: "Meghan closing her own vehicle door is iconic". Talking about the event, Meghan stepped out of a luxuries black sedan and was greeted upon her arrival at her first solo event.
Yet, when Meghan Markle, the United States actress turned newly-wed wife of Britain's Prince Harry, closed her own auto door, a wave of shock and awe rolled over Britain.
It wasn't the first time Meghan, as a royal, has been seen shutting her vehicle door as well. "Seems like a Meghan PR piece to me", one wrote.
But one royal correspondent tried to bring everyone back to their senses by noting that Meghan had not, in fact, breached any protocol.

Trump brings rare laughter to United Nations summit
Pompeo said Iran's economy is "collapsing", noting that Iran's currency "trades at over 150,000 rial to the dollar". He added that Trump not only disagreed with that resolution but said whoever implements it "will be punished".
Meghan Markle's evolution into royal status is officially complete, with the Duchess of Sussex making her first royal appearance alone.
Meghan's accent and too much of her in the video became the talk of the town.
Kensington Palace released a statement from Meghan two days before her wedding on May 19, which confirmed the news that he would not be present on her big day.
William Hanson, an etiquette and protocol coach, tweeted that the door close was not a protocol breach.
Some praised Markle for her "humble" attitude. Meghan said as she took a look at her dress.
Again, we're talking about a simple gesture of shutting a vehicle door, but you don't mess with Royal protocol.
