Virat Kohli becomes fastest batsman to reach 10000 ODI runs

Performing for the country is "not a favour done to anyone", and may be that is the reason even after 10 years of global cricket, Indian captain Virat Kohli feels "no sense of entitlement".

Virat Kohli scored a fine century during the 2nd ODI cricket match against West Indies in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.

However, he needs to score more than 8,000 runs to overhaul Tendulkar's aggregate of 18,426 runs in this format.

Among those who were left pleasantly stunned by Kohli's phenomenal form with the willow is former India captain Sourav Ganguly. And shortly after Rayudu's departure, Kohli achieved the milestone of completing 10,000 runs in ODI cricket. He broke the record of cricket's god Sachin Tendulkar. In that process, more runs have been scored than may be otherwise if I was just thinking about my batting. Tendulkar was the first batsman to get to 10,000 runs, making history against Australia on March 31, 2001 in his 259th innings. Also, Tendulkar's innings-per-century improves considerably. However, should he continue at his current pace, Kohli - still only 29 - will surely surpass that number before the end of his career. That means Tendulkar was around 3.6 times better than the others batting in the top four during that period. MS Dhoni and Rishabh Pant both failed to last long and were dismissed cheaply, leaving Kohli to take up the big hitting role towards the end of the innings which he nailed perfectly on this particular occasion.

Kohli also scaled another magnificent record as he becomes the fastest batsman in terms of career-span to reach the 10,000- club.

It is learnt that Kohli averages over 50 in the Tests and One-Day International (ODI) formats.
