This Election Day, Nov. 6, is widely seen as a referendum on someone not on any ballot: President Donald Trump.

On Monday, Trump announced the deployment of thousands of active-duty troops to the Southwest border.

Where the White House is concerned, one source close to the House Oversight Committee said Democrats want to pressure the president to beef up surveillance bodies that are tasked with overseeing the intelligence community, like the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board.

Two years of political volatility will culminate on Wednesday NZT when United States voters for the first time since the stunning 2016 election render a nationwide judgment on whether Trumpism is a historic anomaly or a reflection of modern-day America. "It is ground zero if you're looking at who's going to control the House", said Mike DeVanney, a Pittsburgh-based Republican strategist.

TEXAS: Deep in the heart of this traditionally Republican bastion is one of the marquee matchups of the 2018 midterms: the Canadian-born Republican senator and Trump tormentor-turned-ally Ted Cruz versus young upstart Democrat challenger Beto O'Rourke. A "blue wave" at the polls could change the shape of the immigration debate.

But while the signs look good for the Democrats in the House, the Senate is another story. Just 13 percent say they are not as well off. In short, the Democrats will put the brakes on the Trump administration's agenda.

The video stood in stark contrast to an ad circulated by the Trump campaign earlier in the week that highlighted rosy economic numbers and depicted gauzy scenes of American suburban life.

But Trump has made the midterms about himself to an unprecedented degree.

Ms McSally's Democratic opponent is Ms Kyrsten Sinema, 42, a three-term member of the House of Representatives who spent several years of her childhood in poverty after her parents divorced.

A number of Trump's immigration policies have been controversial.

Trump flew to West Virginia and IN for campaign rallies, with more planned on the weekend and Monday.

Trump appears Sunday in the southern city of Macon, Georgia.

Scalded by the surprise of 2016, the American media are more cautious and avoid any definitive prediction from the polls that give an advantage to the Democrats for the lower house of Congress.

In Clark County and Las Vegas, Democrats had 45 percent of the turnout to Republicans 34 percent. But Republicans are now worrying about the Midwest - once a source of Trump's greatest strength.

"Mike Braun will say anything to get elected, but the fact is that he was an active Democrat for decades, and voted to raise your taxes 159 times", Reads one such ad. "Lucy Brenton is the true anti-tax conservative". "I am going to be defending the truth".

But such a deal - border wall funding for protecting Dreamers from deportation - has failed once before.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has said she would trade "nothing" with Trump to help him get the wall.

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump managed to condense his anti-immigrant fear-mongering ahead of the November 6 midterms into a single, 51-second advertisement, which even some on the right are immediately decrying as "racist". But the wall, she said, "is probably the worst way to protect the border".

The anxiety and energy are palpable on both sides.

Some analysts said the president's repeated visits to states that he won in 2016 were a signal Republicans were anxious about keeping control of Congress.

With the president having thrown in with immigration hard-liners, some predict a further stalemate in Congress over any immigration legislation. "I'm really speaking more to the television cameras than to you because I don't think we have too many Donnelly voters".

Republicans are generally expected to retain control of the Senate, whose powers include confirming Mr Trump's nominations to lifetime seats on the Supreme Court.

If Republicans hang on to control of Congress, Trump will nearly certainly be emboldened.

"Democrats are openly encouraging millions of illegal aliens to break our laws, violate our sovereignty, overrun our borders and destroy our nation in so many ways", Mr Trump said at a rally in Pensacola, Florida, that lasted about 80 minutes. "There's a chance to try and win them back over".
