Newlyweds killed in tragic helicopter crash after their wedding


Bailee Ackerman and William Byler were married Saturday, before being whisked off to a ranch near Uvalde, Tex.

In a tragic turn of events, the helicopter crashed about 1:47 a.m. on Sunday, also claiming the life of the aircraft pilot, 76-year-old Gerald Green Lawrence.

NTSB said in a tweet Sunday morning that the helicopter involved is a Bell 206B.

A Facebook post by the Houstonian, the student newspaper at Sam Houston State University, identified the couple as seniors at the school.

The helicopter had taken off a few kilometres away from the family ranch in Uvalde, Texas, where the ceremony was held.

According to reports the helicopter was owned by Mr Byler's father.

One of the wedding guests shared a video with KSAT of the newlyweds taking off in the helicopter - now the last images of the couple.

A November 3 wedding date was listed on a website for the Ackerman and Byler nuptials. Their engagement photos show a giddy couple, with Will in a cowboy hat and Bailee showing off her ring.

The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the accident.

The Uvalde County Sheriff's Office said it received a call from an aviation monitoring center about a possible downed aircraft in northwest Uvalde around midnight.
