Recount Likely in Florida Governor Race

Republican former Rep. Ron DeSantis, a strong ally of President Trump, beat Mr. Gillum, the left-wing mayor of Tallahassee, in the unofficial results and Mr. Gillum conceded shortly before midnight last Tuesday.

Florida law provides for automatic recounts when the margin of victory for the victor and runner-up for an office is equal to or less than 0.5 percent, according to

In yet a third statewide seat - the Cabinet position of agriculture commissioner - the candidates were separated by 483 votes out of more than 8 million cast - a margin of 0.006 percent. Should the races meet the requirements for a recount at that time, every single ballot in the state will be fed into machines for digital tallying.

Gillum's campaign said his initial concession Tuesday night was based on "best information available about the number of outstanding ballots" at the time.

Gillum conceded on Election Night, but as the vote margin began to narrow Thursday he said he wanted to see every vote counted, strongly indicating he would not stand in the way of a recount. Rubio said Snipes' failure to count all ballots in a more timely manner violates state law.

Gillum is "ready for any outcome, including a state-mandated recount", she added.

Republican Gov. Rick Scott accused the elections supervisors in Broward and Palm Beach counties of "rampant fraud" and announced Thursday his campaign has sued them over how they've handled counting votes since the election, as new ballots continuing to pour in have narrowed his lead over incumbent Democratic Sen.

"The recounts will be nationally watched ..."

"This morning, Bill Nelson is introducing the people of Florida to Marc Elias, a hired gun from Washington, D.C., who will try to win an election for Nelson that Nelson has already lost", Scott's campaign said in an email Thursday.

Scott's campaign manager Jackie Schutz Zeckman shot back: "They aim to disenfranchise law abiding Florida voters by producing ballots out of thin air until they have enough to win". If the margin of victory is under one-quarter of a percentage point, a hand recount is ordered. "It makes you wonder what's going on", Scherer said.

Big turnout as America votes in test of Trump presidency
Opposition to Trump proved to be more a motivating factor for Democrats than support for the president a factor for Republicans. Midterm elections are the chance for voters to choose their candidates for the US Congress, governorships and local elections.

Mac Miller's Cause of Death Listed as Fentanyl & Cocaine Overdose

Amid mounting concern over Kemp's oversight role in elections, Kemp resigned Thursday as secretary of state, but repeated his assertion that he defeated Abrams.

The President said officials involved in the "phony dossier" about his campaign's contacts with Russian Federation are involved in the recount efforts.

Meanwhile, Republican Matt Caldwell's lead over Democrat Nikki Fried dwindled to 4,109 votes in the Florida Agriculture Commissioner race.

In Broward County, Circuit Judge Carol-Lisa Phillips set a 7 p.m. Friday deadline for Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes to turn over the voter information under Florida's open records laws.

Thousands of provisional ballots cast by voters without identification - or who showed up at the wrong polling location - still need to be counted. "All of the sudden they are finding votes out of nowhere", he said. "We'll never know all that they did".

Ballots from overseas military personnel and their spouses could be another factor in the race. Florida voters fill in paper ballots by hand using a pen and no longer cast the punch-card ballots that produced the infamous "hanging chads" in the 2000 presidential election. "Nelson is going to be declared the victor", Elias said.

"I believe Sen. Nelson will prevail", Elias said.

Elias said he and his team are keeping an eye on provisional ballots counted statewide, which he argued tend to favor Democrats, and votes in Broward and Palm Beach counties.

"The results of the 2018 Senate election are unknown and I think that you and the elections officials should treat it as such", Elias told reporters on a conference call.
