"It has been widely reported by ABC News and other outlets that Michael Avenatti has been arrested in Los Angeles, California on charges of suspected felony domestic violence".

"I have never been physically abusive in my life nor was I last night", he said.

'Further, she was not at Mr. Avenatti's apartment on the date that this alleged incident occurred.

Avenatti claimed during the Wednesday confrontation that his wife hit him first.

The official told the Associated Press that Avenatti was taken into custody Wednesday.

Michael Avenatti is now in custody following allegations of domestic violence on Wednesday, The Associated Press reported. TMZ has since changed the story to say a "woman" is the alleged victim.

Avenatti is best known as the lawyer for adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

Avenatti was formally charged with felony domestic violence and his bail was set at $50,000, LAPD Officer Rosario Herrera told Fox News.

Christopher Di Mezzo, a spokesperson for the party, said he and leaders of the party spoke immediately after the news broke about Avenatti's arrest.

The website initially identified the woman as Avenatti's estranged wife, Lisa Storie Avenatti, but she issued a statement to NBC saying he had never been violent with her. For months, he has publicly flirted with a potential bid for the Democratic presidential nomination to challenge Trump in 2020. She says she had an affair with President Donald Trump in 2006. To keep the case from being dismissed, Avenatti is trying to convince a federal judge that it's in the public's interest to get more details about the motivation behind the hush deal and where the money came from.
