Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) announced Tuesday that the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee plans to get to the bottom of White House adviser Ivanka Trump's alleged use of a personal email address for government business, a likely violation of the Presidential and Federal Records Act.
"We launched a bipartisan investigation previous year into White House officials' use of private email accounts for official business, but the White House never gave us the information we requested", said Cummings, who helped author a 2014 update to the Presidential and Federal Records Act.
Ivanka's attorney, Abbe Lowell, acknowledged the First Daughter 'sometimes used her private account, nearly always for logistics and scheduling concerning her family, ' according to a spokesperson for Lowell.
Ivanka Trump used a private email account "while transitioning into government", a spokesman for her lawyer said on Monday night.
Mr Mirijanian denied that any of the messages contained classified information.
But American Oversight called her personal email use a "blatant derogation of the law".
