With some Friends fans in the midst of a Ross-discovering-someone-at-work-ate-his-sandwich-level freakout following a Business Insider report that the show would be leaving Netflix in January 2019, the streaming service has announced that the beloved sitcom is not disappearing. As of Monday afternoon, the expiration date has been removed from the Friends show page, which appeared to have been a glitch.
However, the future of Friends on Netflix is still uncertain. And in the meantime, it's reportedly squeezing $100 million out of Netflix to allow the company to have Friends for one last exclusive year, in 2019.
After a notice was spotted on the series' Netflix page reading, "Availability Until 1/1/19", fans instantly wondered whether the popular show would be pulled from the streaming service. To that end, it is wrapping up its lucrative licensing deal with Netflix in order to make its Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and Disney Animation titles (as well as all kinds of original content) only available on one streaming product: Disney's.
