Phillies to have face-to-face meeting with Harper

The Washington Post also reported that a meeting between Harper and Nationals owner Ted Lerner took place on the Sunday before Christmas, but initially people within the team refused to confirm it before later admitting that there had been more than one meeting during the winter.

Major League Baseball insider Jon Heyman of Fancred reinforced early this afternoon that the Phillies are indeed in the process of setting up a formal face-to-face meeting with Harper and agent Scott Boras.

The Washington Nationals reportedly have made a fair share of effort to bring back their homegrown star.

Meanwhile, according to NBC Sports Philadelphia, the Nationals are not the only team pursuing Harper seriously. Apparently, The 10-year $300m offer was actually just the team's 1st offer to Harper. As such, you can get a good idea of the type of money Harper is looking for in free agency. While these stats aren't eye-popping, Harper's career stats show 2018 to be an anomaly for a player primed for the best years of his career.

The Phillies clearly remain interested in Harper. It will be interesting to see whether or not the Sox land him, knowing that they have also been "all-in" on Harper as well.

The infielder held meetings with the White Sox, Yankees, and Philadelphia Phillies last month, and his market could gain further clarity in the next few weeks.
