Alien franchise unveils Alien: Blackout game for mobile device

Developer D3 Go! has a listing on its website, describing the game as "a new chapter in the Alien franchise following the saga of Amanda Ripley, Ellen Ripley's daughter, between the films Alien and Aliens". But for more hardcore fans, the real nightmare is what this game actually is compared to what they thought it might be. "Watch. Play" though and while the play bit could easily refer to some sort of web or mobile game the fact that a console game is known to be in development gives plenty of reason to be optimistic.

"Ol" Amanda has managed to land herself in a whole heap of trouble in a Weyland Yutani space station, which just so happens to be crawling with bugs and residents who are scared out of their minds at the thought of having their faces molested by extraterrestrial vagina monsters on crab legs.

Blackout takes place on the infested Weyland-Yutani space station, and sees you shepherding Amanda Ripley and her crew to safety as they're stalked by an inexorable and deadly Xenomorph threat. Alien: Blackout is an entirely different thing, though, and it's out on iOS and Android later this year. Outsmart the flawless hunter by making perilous choices.

If you'd rather play a horror game set with with universe of Alien, Creative Assembly and SEGA's Alien: Isolation is still available for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One and can be picked up on Amazon. More good news: Amanda Ripley is back.

In the wake of Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, I'm particularly attuned to the "choose your own adventure" model of storytelling, and it seems like this game is offering a version of that for its players. A lot can happen in almost six decades, and the franchise has begun to explore that era in the form of video games. Players will make "perilous choices", according to the official site, while guiding the survivors through tasks using only the station's emergency systems.

FoxNext Games' studio, Cold Iron Studios, is also now at work on a massively multiplayer online shooter set in the Alien cinematic universe for consoles and PC.
