Denver Broncos go with Vic Fangio as head coach

Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has reportedly reached an agreement to become the next head coach of the Broncos, according to Adam Schefter and Dan Graziano of ESPN.

That's why Matt Nagy made a decision to keep Fangio on his staff when he took over as head coach in January of 2018, and his defense this past season was at their best.

The gig is Fangio's first as head coach after 19 years of serving as a defensive coordinator in the NFL.

A career defensive assistant of 32 National Football League seasons, Fangio was lauded and respected by his players, who were thrilled to see him get the chance for a head coaching interview.

Fangio replaces Vance Joseph, who was sacked on New Year's Eve after posting the franchise's first back-to-back losing seasons since the early 1970s. The players played hard for Joseph through the struggles of the past two seasons, and many in the Broncos' complex have repeatedly said they respected how Joseph conducted himself.

The Eagles had taken the lead when Nick Foles hit Golden Tate with a 2-yard touchdown pass on fourth down with 56 seconds remaining against the NFL's stingiest defense. Fangio has been coaching since the late 1970s and has climbed the coaching latter and has experienced vast amounts of success at the game's highest level. The Broncos went 11-21 in Joseph's tenure. In that season the Bears acquired Khalil Mack and saw their defense go from good to great.

"I love playing for that guy", Hicks said.

After news broke, Bears receiver Allen Robinson shared his thoughts on Twitter. He previously served as defensive coordinator for the 49ers, Texans, Colts and Panthers.

Despite the experience and accolades, Fangio had hardly been considered as a head coach prior to January.

The exact weeks and order of the game won't be determined until later this offseason, but Chicago will play all four AFC West teams next season, which will also include Matt Nagy's return to Kansas City.
