Daisy McCrackin Sings Intriguing Heartfelt Poetry
November 18, 2009 · Print This Article
Daisy McCrackin is a classically trained actress with a unique ability to dramatically capture your attention. Her songs are not so much entertaining as intriguing, full of questions and dreams. Listening to The Rodeo Grounds is like sipping lemonade while curled up on the porch steps, as Daisy strums her guitar on the front swing during the growing shadows of summer afternoon. Listening to her musings feels like hearing the inner thoughts of a best friend. One who is wondering if love expires when we die, declaring that she’ll speak no more words because true love doesn’t require them. And too, admitting that anguish is her second language, yet maintaining enough hope to request a promise that all her dreams will come true.
Working in Los Angeles, Daisy maintained her acting gigs until 2005, when a spiritual epiphany set her on the music writing path. Just like the lighthearted beginnings of a long-term friendship, she started out writing funny campfire songs while living in The Rodeo Grounds arts collective in Topanga Canyon. Unsure of how her serious side would be received, she sang as a side gig in the evenings, reluctant to share her heartfelt poetic songs with others. During her first live show in 2006 however, an LA Weekly review revealed that she “stole the show.”
By June 2009, Daisy McCrackin was recording her first studio album with renowned musician/producer Alain Johannes (from the bands Eleven and Them Crooked Vultures). What resulted was six original songs written and performed by Daisy, bundled together and titled, The Rodeo Grounds, in honor of the community which inspired her to sing poetry.
Grateful Dead lyricist, John Perry Barlow, proclaimed Daisy to be “the real deal” when he heard the record’s first single, “Tell Her.” Barlow hailed the album’s succinctness, saying Daisy’s “phrasing and delivery are perfect.” Daisy McCrackin sings with a voice lovely and simple, and most of all, one that speaks directly from her heart to yours.
