Junon’s “Feathers” Captures the Joy of Love’s Rapture

The title track of Junon’s October release,”Feathers“, proclaims, “I will be the sunshine for you.” Their dream pop music, which occasionally includes bell tings and tambourine jingles, portrays an early Beatles pop influence and captures the joy of love’s rapture.
Feathers is filled with sweet innocent lyrics as in “Ode to Elusivity #3” in which Browning sings, “I only want to hold your hand. Yeah I only want to sit and talk with you.” The center of the album grows more somber with “The Glass Shatters,” a lamentation relating how a chronically broken heart can hinder a woman from trusting a good guy once he finally comes around. The soft echoes and spacey background sounds accompanying this song accent the sobriety of the piece. Yet the mood quickly lightens again with “I See the Pretty in You,” which features breathy vocals, soft bells, and floaty keyboard tones. This ethereal piece could adequately wrap up the album. The last two tracks include a slow strained account of death and a cover of Bon Iver’s”Flume,” which although well done, distracts from the album’s overall dreaminess. Junon’s steady rhythm, cheerful backup vocals and pleasant story telling easily persuade you to pack a picnic for two and plan for sunny weather.
