Get ready for a live show in your own living room – the White Stripes have a documentary out, viewable as of Tuesday, March 16. Under Great White Northern Lights is a film following the ambitious yet somewhat eccentric tour in which Jack White and his sister, Meg, set out to perform in every province and territory in the great northern nation. The Detroit band insists on playing in towns rarely visited even by native Canadian bands.
Filmmaker Emmett Malloy joins with cinematographer Giles Dunning to deliver a film that adheres to the band’s own style and mystique. The film keeps in line with White Stripes’ famous color scheme, mixing stark black-and-white photography with occasional bursts of red.
The White Stripes are also releasing their first-ever official live album of the 16 songs recorded during their 2007 Canadian tour on both vinyl and CD. In addition to the live CD, they’re including a DVD release of their 10th anniversary show as well as a DVD of the Emmett Malloy documentary, Under Great White Northern Lights. The CD/DVD box set is officially released March 16 in various packages on whitestripes.com.
