Damon Albarn is trying to become a new sort of musical pioneer – the first musician to make an album on an iPad. The Gorillaz frontman has been working on the band’s new album with the help of Apple’s portable device.
“I hope I’ll be making the first record on an iPad,” he told NME. “I fell in love with my iPad as soon as I got it, so I’ve made a completely different kind of record.”
Albarn has been working on the record during his band’s North American tour, writing in “hotel rooms across America.” He said he hopes to put the record out before the holiday season.
“It sounds like an English voice that has been put through the vocoder of America,” Albarn said. “[It’s] more American-sounding than Blur… I’m going to try and put it out before Christmas.”
As far as what Albarn’s 2011 plans entail, he wouldn’t say: “I’m doing something next year about a subject that’s really close to my heart. I’m not telling you what it is.”
