Good luck on finding a drummer to fill Mike’s spot, and not just his drumming but everything else he brings to the band. It’s simple, no Mike no Dream Theater, i love Dream Theater but Mike’s hard work made them who they are today. It’s not Dream Theater without Mike.

though without Portnoy, Dream Theater is still Dream Theater & i still love DT. DT RULES YEAH!!

  • Thiago Dalfovo

Dream Theater will never be the same without MP… no matter how good the new drummer is…. the essence of DT will always be MP & JP…. pride shouldn’t stay in the way… please take MP back…

I know Dream Theater can do a record without Mike Portnoy but..it will not be Dream Theater, what lots of fans do not realize is how important his sound is to the band, I myself am a huge Dream Theater fan I play every one of there songs on the drums and Mike Portnoy is my idol, I know without him on the drums, the sound would be totally changed, and leave lots of Dream Theater fans disappointed, it seems every band goes through the stages of Metallica, they have a Black Album, and a St. Anger, with Dream Theater, this next album without Portnoy would be the St. Anger of Dream Theater, no offence to Dream Theater being the wonderful and most talented musicians they are, I don’t think anyone in Dream Theater understands how important a drummer with style is to a band.

Yes I think that Dream Theater should have taken Portnoy back. There would be NO Dream Theater if not for Portnoy. And yes I agree if not for Petrucci, Kevin Moore, and John Myung there would have been no Dream Theater too but what I mean by this is later on. Mike Portnoy held that band together. He did the set lists and most of the PR work as well as guided the band with concepts and many directions. Don’t get me wrong…I love Dream Theater but out of all of them Portnoy and LaBrie were the nicest ones that I met and really seemed to care that I was a huge fan…the others were arrogant…well except Jordan…Jordan was cool. But Portnoy…I mean he really stood out in that band…he was in a way the lead of that band. I just hope that one day they will be able to see eye to eye and reconcile. Maybe one day they will at least do one more tour and album together before retiring. I am gonna miss you Mike! This brings a tear to my eye :(

Yes, DT will never be the same without MP anymore but looking at how they deal with the matter it seems that they really need a break from each other. In a football team you would discuss all this behind the scenes, lay it down to rest and come back stronger. What they do and how they treat each other now is painful to see aand really hurts me. They should have definitely taken a break to think and re-gather their creativity to come back with a fresh new album giving a new direction to DT as looking at the last albums, they were not as passionate anymore as they used to be.
Hope they’ll find their way and get back together at some point.
See you at High Voltage in London this year,
    Stephan

No. Time for a new Drummer. I suggest Mike Terrana!

  • Marc

Mike Portnoy is the self-proclaimed man behind the band. Aside from his drumming, his biggest contribution was his ego. His vocals sucked ass, his lyric writing was amateur hour and last time I checked, telling guys what time signature you want the next part to be is not songwriting.

Dream Theater has gotten progressively worse over the years as Portnoy’s stranglehold on the band tightened. It’s time to move on and see what the band can do without the whining, tweet and message board happy drama queen behind the kit.

Mike was foolish to quit a great band like Dream Theater to join a band that sucks, like Avenged Sevenfold. Was this to make him stand out more in a band? I don’t know, but I have lost a lot of respect for Mike. It’s starting to look like the whole Gilmour/Waters feud all over again. Honestly, I don’t blame the other members of DT for rejecting his return.

  • Mark Passarelli

Reject MP’s return? Moronic. I’ll admit, I’m a drummer and he is one of my favorites. I will follow him wherever he goes. As for the rejection, I will not follow or support DT anymore. (and this is coming from a fan that’s been one for the last 20 years) I was going to support both but with the whole lawyer and rejection thing.. DT without Portnoy, meh…

I WOULD LIKE TO START BY SAYING THAT MIKE PORTNOY IS AN AMAZING DRUMMER!!!! DREAM THEATRE SHOULD REGROUP WITH MIKE PORTNOY. WHY REJECT A MAN THAT NOT ONLY STARTED THE BAND, BUT WHO GAVE 1000% FOR OVER 25 YEARS? ARE YOU GUYS FOR REAL? GIVE UP THE ATTITUDES AND BRING BACK THE GREATEST DRUMMER YOU WILL EVER HAVE!!!! ENOUGH SAID!!!!!!!!

  • Sam

damn yes im loosing all of my repects to DT, DT was ment to be with mike portnoy and i shocked how the band would do that to him thats embarressing really im really sorry for that but i lost all my repsect to the band
