The award-winning European streaming music site Spotify launched today in the United States. Spotify has been touted as the best thing to happen to music since the iPod. With virtually an unlimited number of tracks available and a format that allows you to listen to any of them anytime, anywhere, Spotify could be the new giant in the way people get their music. The best part is that it’s free!

The excitement behind this new music service is well justified. Spotify allows you to search for any artist and play their music from your laptop or cell phone. Many big names have expressed their love for the groundbreaking release in the US. The L.A. Times says, “It blows the doors off anything on the market,” and “Spotify is so good,” says Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook.

The format of Spotify could not be easier. Download the app to your phone and take your playlists with you anywhere. They also promise that if you are without an internet connection you will not be without music. Drag and drop songs to create infinite playlists that can be shared with other users, and accessed wherever you decide to use Spotify. Where to start with so many choices? Just type in any artist and there you have it. Unlike other streaming sites like Pandora, Spotify allows you to search for specific songs and save playlists to listen to anywhere and unlike other pay sites you will not have to fork out ten or more dollars to download a new album.

Memberships to Spotify are available at www.spotify.com. You can either gain membership by being invited by Spotify or paying as little as $4.99 a month to gain access to unlimited music from any artist in the world.
