Apparently, in Reading, where I live, there is some big musical thing going on. Apparently.
Yesterday (Aug 27th) on the BBC Introducing Stage, The Joy Formidable played a surprise acoustic set shortly after opening on the Main Stage. The band played a very short set, featuring acoustic versions of “Whirring” and “The Greatest Light”. Head over to the old reliable BBC to watch a recording of the show. It’s a great little show, there seems to be a great appreciation for the fans there.
It’s really nice to hear acoustic versions of these songs – listening to the studio recordings, it’s kind of hard to imagine what some of them would sound like. Singer Ritzy (Best first name ever) Brian had this to say on that subject:
“I think it’s the test of a good song whether it sounds good acoustically, if it translates in its simplest form, then it works. You hear the lyrics, you hear the form, you hear the melody, it’s great.”
