Alternative-rock band R.E.M. has announced that upon their disbandment, they are releasing a greatest hits album–a compilation of their best music from 1982-2011.
After starting in 1980 and releasing their first album in 1981, R.E.M. has had a long-time success and has now decided that it’s time to wrap it up. The new greatest hits album, Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage: 1982-2011, is set to be released on November 15th via Warner Brothers. The album will also include a new single from the band called “Collapse Into Now”.
While it is sad that a great band that has persisted through the decades is coming to an end, at least they’re going out with a bang (and some new singles). The band officially announced their disbandment via their official website on September 21st, saying:
“To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band. We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening..”
This post was followed by the band member’s personal messages about the end of R.E.M. And in return, R.E.M., we thank you for providing us with some pretty awesome music.
