Singer-songwriter Michael Kiwanuka has been tipped most likely to make an impact in 2012, according to a BBC poll.
Beating the likes of Azealia Banks, Spector, Skrillex and Frank Ocean, Kiwanuka was also nominated for this year’s Critics’ Choice BRIT award – but was placed in third position behind Maverick Sabre and winner Emeli Sande.
In a statement, Kiwanuka said:
“It’s very encouraging for some of my music to be noticed and considered as something worth listening to. I think it’s every musician’s dream to have any sort of recognition for their art, something that is so personal. This is something that I don’t take for granted.”
The BBC’s ‘Sound of 2012′ was decided by over 180 music critics, broadcasters, editors and bloggers and is generally a good indication of future success, with Adele (2008), Ellie Goulding (2010) and Jessie J (2011) each topping the list in their respective years.
