Here is where we will pass along the most intriguing and worthwhile songs that we’ve been fortunate enough to discover. Many will be songs we’ve been obsessing over in our homes with the record spinning and a drink in hand, and others will be melodies culled from our inbox that snuck up and got their hooks in us.
We’re not concerned with genre limitations or mere trendiness. We simply want to open the door for you to join us in listening to music that is making us excited about the power of a song. Check out the Download Den daily, and the least we can do is help soundtrack your day.
Following up a lauded 2009 debut and a 2010 EP, Swedish band The Amazing will debut their first official U.S. release, titled Gentle Stream, in less than two weeks. The Amazing is a disarmingly melodic five-piece consisting of Reine Fiske (of the acclaimed neo-psych band Dungen), Christoffer Gunrup, Frederik Swahn, Alexis Benson, and celebrated jazz drummer Moussa Fadera. The band is set to embark on an American tour in support of the smoking hot Australian psychedelic band Tame Impala (check out Lonerism, which was released this week, if you haven’t already) in November.
Gentle Stream is an album worth getting exciting about. It takes brass balls to name your band The Amazing, but these Swedes make the decision sound fitting rather than arrogant. Take a listen to the title track below, and you’ll understand what I mean. The song is a hypnotic treasure filled with snaking guitar grooves, thick, humid atmosphere and harmonies worthy of CSNY. “Gentle Stream” kicks off the album, and it instantly throws you into another world. It’s a sound reminiscent of generations ago greats that never grow tiresome like Floyd, Santana, and Neil Young & Crazy Horse, but it pulls off the grand achievement of not reeking of nostalgia.
