Finally, we have some music news truly worth getting excited about in the midst of the overwhelming election fervor.
During an interview with BBC Radio 1 this afternoon, Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme not only announced that the revered hard rockers will soon be hard at work on a new album, but also Dave Grohl will return to man the drums. Grohl previously drummed for QOTSA on the band’s brilliant 2002 album Songs for the Deaf, which I still nominate for “Best Hard Rock Album of the Millenium.” Homme and Grohl also played alongside each other in the utterly badass trio Them Crooked Vultures, with John Paul Jones rounding out the supergroup.
As to when the album will be released, it appears the day will come prior to The Download Festival 2013 (6/14/13 – 6/16/13), if QOTSA’s Twitter is any indication. In response to a fan’s question of whether a new album will be out before the band plays the Leicestershire, England festival, @qotsa replied, “Fuck yes there will be.”
So, in honor of the short 31 weeks or less until we will be bestowed a new Queens of the Stone Age album with Dave Grohl on drums, let’s blast this beast as a reminder of just what’s in store.
