New Brunswick, NJ rockers The Gaslight Anthem have debuted a video for the somber beauty “National Anthem,” which closes out the band’s most recent, excellent album Handwritten in poignant fashion. The clip is a tribute to the suffering and resiliency of the people of New Jersey and New York have faced during and in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Simply conceived, earnestly shot, and expertly matched to Brian Fallon’s deeply resonant lyrics, the “National Anthem” clip is a fitting tribute to the ongoing struggle in both the band’s home state and its East Coast neighbors facing equally trying circumstances.
The clip’s conclusion of “Stay Strong, Jersey” is both a clear-cut reminder of the toughness of the New Yorkers and New Jerseyans and a declaration of faith in the Americans who are standing behind them. The Gaslight Anthem are currently selling posters and shirts for Hurricane Sandy relief on their tour with 100% of the proceeds divided equally between Rebuild Recover and Architecture For Humanity’s ‘Rebuild Seaside Pier’ effort. The Gaslight Anthem’s Handwritten is out now on Mercury Records.
