l_c0142e2ea8e4426ea6575e862bc60fadHe has the look and more importantly the sound of an up and coming Rock and Roll star, and he’s only 20 years old.

Nigel Dupree is the front man for the Nigel Dupree Band. The band has been getting plenty of buzz around Atlanta for months. So what’s the buzz about?

Maybe it’s because Nigel has always been a musician in the making, whose entire life has revolved around music. Or maybe it’s safer to say that music has always revolved around Nigel. But what else could be expected of the son of Jackyl’s Jesse James Dupree.

But despite his father’s name and success Nigel is quickly building a name for himself and after listening to his music you’ll understand why.

NDB’s sound is classic, big voice and even bigger music. It’s a throwback to the 80’s, to a time when Rock and Roll was just Rock and Roll. Before there was a need for sub-categories like, Pop and Emo just too clearly define one’s style.

We caught up with Nigel who’s busy these days touring and promoting their debut album ‘Attraction’. We had the chance to ask him a few questions about the history of NDB, his influences, and how being a descendant of music royalty has helped him along the way.

TST: Give us a brief history on the Nigel Dupree Band. How did the band get started?

Nigel: It was my freshmen year of High School. I wanted to win the talent show so I put a band together and did just that! It wasn’t until my senior year that Adam Townsend (drums), and Josh Hilton (bass) came into the picture. We could tell right away there was this force behind us, so we stuck with it.

TST: Who are your musical influences?

Nigel: My dad, KISS, Motley Crue, AC/DC, and ZZ TOP.

TST: How did you guys meet?

Nigel: We all played in different bands, and grew up with a lot of the same people.

TST: How long have you been playing together?

Nigel: Three years of greatness! Ha Ha

TST: You’re father is Jackyl’s Jesse James Dupree. Would you say that having a successful musician as a father has helped your musical endeavors?

Nigel: Totally! I always laugh and tell people I’ve been in the industry for 20 years. It’s been amazing having that kind of resource right across the hallway from me. I’m very fortunate.

TST: Who’s the songwriter in the group?

Nigel: Mainly myself, due to the fact that I play guitar and sing, but Adam and Josh do have their influence and input on the tunes.

TST: What message do you try to convey with your songs?

Nigel: That sex is good!! I like to write about beautiful girls, partying, and all the good things that come along with both of those. Yeah that might sound like a generic answer from a cock rocker but it’s the truth. Just ask my dad, I get in plenty of trouble.

TST: How would you describe your sound for someone that hasn’t heard you yet?

Nigel: If you took ACE, and Paul out of KISS, put them in a band with some of the guys from Def Leppard, and then mixed a Aerosmith/southern type accent in. That’s just one way to describe us. Some of my close friends send me new descriptions of us every day, HaHa. We’re just a rock and roll band.

TST: What would you say sets you apart from other bands?

Nigel: We just do what we do. What you hear on the record is what you get live, but with some eye candy.

The Nigel Dupree band is currently on tour and their first album “Attraction” is currently available on iTunes.
