Proud Simon’s ‘Anchors Away,’ Good and Simple Americana Music

Proud Simon’s Anchors Away is five tracks of good and simple Americana music. Each song features a poetic tale set to a basic rhythm. The entire album is relaxed and upbeat. Sometimes though, the music doesn’t clearly demonstrate the lyrics.
In “Morning Paper,” for instance, the cheery guitar and soft drum beat don’t quite match the declaration, “I’m a businessman with my tie slackened and my bloodstream boiling.” On other songs however, the music successfully accentuates the lyrical message.
“I Keep the Paintings Covered” properly builds when proclaiming that “the toxicity peaks.” It then slows and punctuates each following statement, “I keep the paintings covered, their faces insufferable. I keep the letters in envelopes; a graveyard full of ghosts.” The music then adds a final period when relating how “the fever boiled and was broken” before resuming its pleasant melody. The album finishes with “Time Capsule,” a quick-tempo funky blues folk song which unveils the band’s heartfelt singing and playing talents.
