November 24, 2009 · Print This Article

black_tusk_sabbathSavannah’s own Swampy Doom band Black Tusk has signed to Relapse Records.

Black Tusk formed in 2005 and saw the release of their debut full-length, Passage through Purgatory, last year via Hyperrealist.  Black Tusk has most recently released a series of split 7”s including those with ASG, THE HOLY MOUNTAIN, and FIGHT AMP. Audio samples taken from these releases can be heard now via the band’s Myspace.

Black Tusk headlined the Devilneck Music Fest in Atlanta at Lenny’s this summer and have been on the road  rounding out a run of dates with Black Cobra in the Eastern US. Upon returning home, Black Tusk will begin writing for their Relapse debut for an expected spring 2010 release date. Black Tusk commented on the signing: “It’s awesome to be on a label with so many bands that have helped shaped our tastes and with a staff that treats like family. We’re stoked to get this next record out and we have a bunch of tours in the works so keep an eye out.”

Black Tusk is currently featured in the December 2009 issue of Spin Magazine (on newsstands now) along with label-mates Baroness as part of a story on Savannah’s burgeoning metal scene.

You can get up to date information on the band on their website or the band’s Myspace page.
