Slow Six’s Album, ‘Tomorrow Becomes You;’ A Robust Musical Concoction.

Slow Six’s album, Tomorrow Becomes You, is electro-acoustic instrumental music which warms up slowly, like a pot of melting butter preparing for a roux. Beginning with resounding digital pings, “The Night You Left New York,” builds gradually as each instrument is added one by one, like ingredients placed in the pot – keyboard, guitar, violin, drums – until the sounds blend together to create a robust musical concoction.
While the beginning and ending songs of the album are rich and soothing, the rest are very hypnotic pieces involving repetitive sounds nearly mimicking sirens and cricket chirps. Some tracks include background garble, like that of a recorded phone message, which interferes with the instrumental rhythm. Digital speaking sounds in “Because Together We Resonate” are coupled with a high-low-high violin whining which creates a rather eerie ‘Twilight Zone’ feeling.
The ending track, “These Rivers Between Us,” is the most readily likable one of the album. It immediately grabs your interest, then subsequently changes pace and direction to keep your attention throughout the entire nine minute play time. Each of Tomorrow’s lengthy pieces culminates excellently during the last few minutes when every instrument joins in with its own tune while working collectively to create a lovely original sound.
