Coheed and Cambria will be releasing their fifth studio album, Year of the Black Rainbows in April 2010 via Columbia Records. The new release will be available in a deluxe package which includes a 300+ page novel by the same name as the album. The novel was co-written by lead singer/guitarist, Claudio Sanchez, and New York Times bestselling author Peter David. The book delineates the origins of Coheed and Cambria, among other things. A pre-sale for the deluxe edition of Year of the Black Rainbow will be announced by the end of December.
The fifth album is considered a prequel to the band’s four previous albums, which are inter-related in concept and together are called The Amory Wars. Year of the Black Rainbow is produced by Atticus Ross, who worked with Nine Inch Nails and Jane’s Addiction, as well as Joe Baressi, who worked with Queens of the Stone Age and Tool. On the band’s website, Coheed and Cambria state that, “…the new album will be the ‘Origin Story’ or ‘The Prequel,’ and likely the final story of the ongoing concept story of The Amory Wars.”
