Brazos on tour in anticipation of debut release, Phosphorescent Blues

I listened to the Brazos debut release, Phosphorescent Blues, over and over. I couldn’t stop. The music haunted me as I listened, trying to take in everything that was going on in the tracks, trying to decipher what combination of sounds and rhythms made such damn good music. I still don’t know how, but the foursome have figured it out and taken it to the next level. The album, on Autobus Records, swells with big songs full of echoing melodies complimented with sometimes buried vocals that find themselves comfortably in the mix. Lead singer, Martin Crane quietly pieces together stories that keep your attention, hanging on every pause and waiting for what he may have next. They blend the experimental side of Radiohead with the catchy bass lines reminiscent of Tapes n’ Tapes for a sound that feels familiar and new all at once, and certainly doesn’t let you down.

I like the snapping rhythm of the opening track, “My Buddy.” The song is a great start for an album. It certainly draws you right into the music and only hints that this may be your new favorite band. By track ten, there is no doubt.

You can pick up Phosphorescent Blues on November 24, 2009.  In the meantime, don’t miss Brazos when they play with White Denim Nov 18th at the Earl in Atlanta. Or if you aren’t fortunate enough to live in the great city of Atlanta, check out one of their many other tour stops, starting out in their hometown of Austin, TX. You won’t regret it.
