Matador Records will be releasing Quarantine the Past, a collection of tracks spanning the entirety of Pavement’s musical catalog from 1989 to 1999. The 23-track compilation will be fully remastered and available on mid-priced double LP, CD, and digital album formats. The album can’t truly be called a “greatest hits” album, since many of the tracks will be among the more obscure. However, no previously unreleased material will be included.
Quarantine the Past will be available for purchase on March 9, and the release will coincide with Pavement’s first live appearances since the fall of 1999. Tour dates start in New Zealand on March 1 and continue through the spring and summer in Australia and Europe, leading to 4 New York dates in September. More US shows will be announced soon.
Matador Records is holding a contest for fans that can guess the track listing of the new album. The first prize include a pair of tickets, including flights and hotel rooms, to see Pavement at Central Park Summerstage on September 21, 2010 and a complete set of Pavement 12″ Vinyl.
