Countdown to MGMT’s Next Album

MGMT fans will be counting down the days until April 13th. That’s the set release date for the band’s second album, titled, Congratulations. This will be the follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2007 debut, Ocular Spectacular. SpinCongratulations was recorded in studios in NY and CA. Peter Kember produced the album while Dave Fridmann did the mixing. MGMT frontman Andrew VanWyngarden says, “Congratulations feels true to who we really are.” He reports that the biggest influence on the sound and feel of the new album is his new found love of surfing. reports that
It is uncertain as to whether any singles will be released off the album, since the duo explained to NME in their January interview that they desire the album be approached in its entirety rather than as a bundle of standout singles. VanWyngarden said, “We’d rather people hear the whole album as an album and see what tracks jump out rather than the ones that get played on the radio – if anything gets played on the radio!”
