Lady Gaga, Disturbed and Black Label Society Among Artist Joining KORN’s Boycott Against BP

June 18, 2010

Last week KORN announced their boycott  against oil giant BP in wake of the disaster in the The Gulf caused by BP’s record setting oil spill.

Since annoucing their boycott  the following top touring artists have joined the cause and have committed to avoid the use of fuel sold by BP or its affiliates on their upcoming tours for 2010: Disturbed, Lady Gaga, Rise Against, Godsmack, Backstreet Boys, Rock Star Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, Slightly Stoopid, Rob Zombie, Megadeth, Black Label Society with Zakk Wylde, Anthrax, Creed, Filter, Hellyeah and Flogging Molly.

“This is the worst thing that has ever happened to the environment in U.S. history.  From everything we’re hearing about now, it’s become clear that BP cut corners to put profit ahead of safety.  The message we are sending should tell all the oil companies to spend the money and take the necessary precautions to make sure this doesn’t happen again,” said Jonathon Davis of KORN. “I’m really proud that this many artists have already come on board, and I hope more will join soon.”

Presently close to 100 vehicles, trucks and buses from the committed artists will be involved in the boycott this summer.

KORN Bassist Announces Solo Album

February 24, 2010

KORN bassist Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu is putting the finishing touches on a new solo album, “Basically”, which he hopes to release later this year. He tells AOL’s Noisecreep, “I’d say it’s like a jazz fusion funk type of thing. Real new age, too. Different kinds of music.

He adds, “I’ve always wanted to do it. When I was younger, learning bass, I listened to a lot of bass albums; Stanley Clarke, I grew up listening to that type of stuff.”

“I don’t want people to be confused and buy it and not like it. It’s not heavy,” he emphasizes. “I don’t want people to get it and think, ‘Man, I can’t believe I bought this crap’. It’s not meant to be heavy. If you like heavy and are not open-minded, you will not like this.”

For the upcoming CD, Fieldy multi-tracked lead and rhythm parts using a 15-string bass, stand-up bass and fretless bass.

“It’s insane, man. I did so many lead tracks and rhythm tracks,” he tells Noisecreep. “Sometimes, it’s chaotic. It kinda takes you on a ride through the CD, so you can have a mellow funk track next to a chaotic bunch of basses going crazy. Right now, I have 11 songs finished. I might do two more, but it’s pretty much done.”

Recently The Silver Tongue caught up with Guitarist Sameer Bhattacharya and asked him a few questions about the new album and their current tour.

TST: You just released a new album, “Memento Mori” November 10th. How exactly did you decide upon that name?

Sameer: Memento Mori means “remember you will die” and it just seems appropriate with the songs on the album. The songs talk about time being short, faith, hope and love and exercising those things now.
